Firefighters from Ohio are being sent to help battle wildfires our west.
There are currently 50 fires burning across 11 states charring hundreds of thousands of acres.
According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Fire Crew #3 is scheduled to leave Saturday from Columbus. The crew will assist in efforts to bring under control the fire in the Klamath National Forest in northern California. The crew consists of 20 firefighters, including five employees of ODNR.
Ohio Fire Crew #2 is already on the ground at the Corral Complex fire in Six Rivers National Forest in northern California. The crew consists of 20 members including nine ODNR workers.
The Corral Complex fire is currently zero percent contained and has chewed through 10,000 acres. Lightning sparked the fire on August 10. It's estimated the fire will be contained by early October. More than 900 firefighters are battling the fire.
Ohio Fire Crew #1 has recently returned after assisting in Oregon.
The ODNR keeps a list of trained and qualified firefighters who are dispatched across the country to help assist with wildfires.
