UNDATED - There's no respite from the heat wave that's gripping the eastern two thirds of the nation.

Heat index values near 100 degrees or greater are being felt from the Midwest to the Northeast.

Baltimore, Md., saw a midday high heat index value up to 115 degrees, with a high temperature at 95 degrees.

Amtrak has been slowing trains along the busy Northeast Corridor because the heat is driving up internal temperatures of the rails.

In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is asking people to reduce electricity use because the intense heat is driving near record demand for power. He says people should cut back as much as possible to take pressure off the state's power grid and help prevent outages or brownouts.

Health officials continue to warn people about taking care to stay hydrated, eat light and avoid strenuous activity.
