  • AKRON -- A series of cooling stations have been opened to help Akron residents beat the extreme heat.

    HEAT ADVISORY | Temps to feel like 104

    From now until Friday, July 19, Akron is providing cold water and extended hours of operation at the following community centers:

    Patterson Park: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Wednesday - Thursday), 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. (Friday).

    GUIDE | Staying safe in extreme heat

    Ellet: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Wednesday - Thursday), 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Friday).

    Lawton: 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. (Wednesday - Thursday), 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Friday).

    Summit Lake: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Wednesday - Friday).

    Firestone: 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Wednesday - Thursday), 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Friday).

    "I am urging people to go to the mall, a friend's house, or our Community Centers to get out of the heat," said Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic. "We do not want our residents that cannot tolerate this heat to risk their health by staying in their homes, without air conditioning or fans."
