Active weather continued across much of the Eastern U.S. Tuesday as a low pressure system dominated across the region.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms developed from the Florida Peninsula northward across the Mid-Atlantic and New England. In addition, some scattered showers occurred over the Ohio Valley.

In the North, a cold front dropped into the Northern Plains and brought cooler temperatures to the region. Since it only had limited moisture to work with, little precipitation was associated with this frontal boundary. This cold front was expected to bring more precipitation and much colder air to the Northern Plains and Norther Rockies Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Moving to the West, another hot and record temperature breaking day prevailed across central and southern California Tuesday, as a strong ridge of high pressure held in place. Much of the Desert Southwest and Central Valley saw temperatures soaring into triple digits. Parts of San Francisco were in the 90s Tuesday afternoon.
