PHILADELPHIA - Temperatures have soared into the 90s across Pennsylvania, but many records appear safe for now.

The National Weather Service says Philadelphia reached a high of 97 degrees on Thursday, two degrees shy of the record of 99. Elsewhere, Allentown hit a high of 94, staying below the record of 98. In northeastern Pennsylvania, Scranton hit 93.

Harrisburg and Williamsport both peaked at 94 degrees in the central part of the state. In the northwest, Erie maxed out at 90 degrees and Pittsburgh got into the mid-90s.

There could be some relief in sight in some areas. Temperatures in Philadelphia are expected to dip into the low 90s on Friday before heavy rain moves in. Weekend highs are expected in the mid-80s.
