WADSWORTH TOWNSHIP -- An Akron man was injured today when he crashed a private plane near Skypark Airport.
According to the State Highway Patrol, Harry King, 70, the pilot of the plane, was its only occupant.
The patrol described his injuries as "moderate."
He was taken to Wadsworth Rittman Hospital by Seville-Guilford EMS.
The crash occurred about 1:15 p.m. when King was trying to land on Runway 21.
The plane traveled off the runway, and King lost control, according to the patrol.
The plane's left wing struck the ground in a nearby cornfield, causing the front end to strike the ground and spin around.
Safety restraints were used by King, and the patrol does not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The Seville-Guilford Fire Department and the Federal Aviation Administration assisted at the scene.
