AKRON -- A 58-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle while walking on the very street where her home was located.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office says Rebecca Altuz was walking in the 200 block of Darrow Road when she was struck by a maroon 1997 Chevy Blazer around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday.
She was taken to Akron City Hospital where she later died at 9:45 p.m.
Akron Police say the driver fled the scene, but officers later located the vehicle involved along the 2100 block of Newton Street.
The driver -- 67-year-old Jimmie Kirkman Jr. -- reportedly admitted to driving the vehicle involved during the fatal accident.
Kirkman was arrested and charged with felony hit-skip. He's been booked into the Summit County Jail.
Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
Additional charges are expected.
