ASHLAND -- Ashland University says it is slashing tuition costs next year to make higher education more affordable.

The university says it will cut tuition by more than $10,000 for full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Fall of 2014-15.

The cut represents a 37-percent decrease brings the planned 2014-15 tuition cost of $30,064 to just under $19,000. Room and board costs are separate and not included in the tuition numbers.

In discussing the decision, Ashland says research indicated that prospective students and their parents were deterred by "sticker shock" and "not looking at the actual cost to attend Ashland University even when financial aid is applied."
