LORAIN -- The Lorain Fire Chief says homes were evacuated after a road crew ruptured a gas line Tuesday.
The chief says a block of homes was cleared as a precaution after the line was hit by a crew working in an area near Oberlin Avenue. The evacuation is reportedly between W. 12th and W. 13th Streets.
The impacted line is a 10-inch gas pipe.
Some residents took shelter at the main fire station. Residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.
Crews are working to reduce tension in the line so gas workers can make repairs. A gas company spokesman says it could take most of the night to fix the gas line.
