AMHERST -- The police department has concluded its investigation into a 3:40 a.m. July 27 fight at Denny's Restaurant on North Leavitt Road.
Six people have been charged with crimes.
After the fight, the table of suspects left Denny's before officers arrived. Video was obtained from Denny's and posted on the Amherst Police Facebook page on July 30.
Police say that, within minutes of the first video being posted, the Amherst Police Department received several tips on the identity of at least two of the suspects.
Citizens recognized one of the females in the video as Michelle Lucas, the owner of a Amherst daycare center. By 5 p.m. later that day, the videos had 11,000 hits.
Through further tips and investigation, it was learned the other persons in the video were Ariel Hill and Justin Lucas, the sister and son to Michelle Lucas, as well as three other men -- Zachery Kelley, Joshua Kelley, and Tony Michael.
The incident started when two men were at the Amherst Denny's and seated at a table behind the suspects' table. The two men went outside to smoke a cigarette and one of them left their cell phone on the table.
Upon their return, the cell phone was gone and the man began looking for the phone. While he was attempting to locate the phone, he looked towards suspects' table
He and the suspects exchanged glances, then words. The man told police that a Hispanic female, later identified as Ariel Hill, immediately became upset, grabbed a butter knife off her own table and approached him.
In the video, one of the suspects seated at the table with Hill was able to grab the knife, at which point Hill continued to approach the victim, who was still seated, and began punching him repeatedly.
Also seen in the video, suspects later identified as Zachery and Joshua Kelley approached the victim and also threw multiple punches, striking the victim in the forehead.
The video clearly shows the disturbance as well as the condition of the restaurant after the fight.
It was later determined through additional video footage obtained from Denny's that Justin Lucas was the one who stole the phone off the table. Hill was charged with theft. The phone has not been recovered.
Michelle Lucas, Ariel Hill, Tony Michael, and Zachery Kelley all left Denny's Restaurant without paying their food bill and were subsequently charged with theft.
