CLEVELAND -- A 31-year-old man has died after crashing an ATV into H. Barbara Booker Elementary School in Cleveland early Thursday morning.
The accident happened around 2 a.m. at the school at 2126 W. 67th Street.
Police say the victim, who has been identified as Carlos Javier Sanchez-Ortiz, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
He was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors told Channel 3 crews they heard the crash and called for help.
One neighbor said they tried to save the rider but it was too late.
According to Cleveland Police, preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving a 2003 Yamaha ATV in the school's parking lot. Police say he then recklessly drove down a descending grass embankment and struck the school building.
He was ejected from the vehicle.
