YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio -- Antioch College says an employee of its adjacent nature preserve admits making a false report about a gunman that led to a lockdown at the small, private school in southwest Ohio.
The campus in Yellow Springs and the neighboring Glen Helen Nature Preserve were locked down last Thursday after someone reported seeing a man dressed in camouflage and possibly carrying a gun.
The college says the lockdown affected dozens of students and staff, and youth attending a camp were sent home. Greene County sheriff's deputies searched for hours and eventually determined the report was unsubstantiated.
The college says a nature preserve employee has admitted making the false claim. The school provided no information about the worker's motive.
The employee has been suspended pending further investigation and possible legal action.
