WILLOUGHBY, Ohio -- A 67-year-old Willoughby man was killed in an accident after falling off his motorcycle along the border of Kirtland and Willoughby Wednesday night.

James D. Martin was headed west on Kirtland Road, just past S.R. 306 in Kirtland around 9:43 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle. Martin was thrown from the motorcycle as it slid off the left side of the road into Willoughby.

A witness stopped to help Martin, who was sitting in the roadway. Then, an approaching car headed east on Kirtland Road struck Martin, dragging him off the south side of the road.

Martin suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.

The car was driven by Barbara Reinkoester, 74, of Kirtland. No charges have been filed at this time.

The Willoughby Police Traffic Crash Investigative Unit is investigating the crash.

It is not clear if alcohol was a factor, officials said.

Anyone with any information about this crash is asked to call Willoughby Police Lt. James Schultz at (440) 953-4212.
