BANGOR, Mich. -- Officials say a 15-year-old boy is responsible for two explosives made from drain cleaner that went off at two schools in southwestern Michigan.

One was inside a locker at Bangor High School and another was in a garbage can in a bathroom at Bangor Middle School in Van Buren County.

They were bottles filled with drain cleaner. The Kalamazoo Gazette says the schools were locked down for a few hours Friday.

Superintendent Ron Parker says a camera shows the boy placing the bottle in the bathroom. He says the boy was acting on a dare.

There was a loud sound at the high school, like a book falling to the floor. The teen is charged as a juvenile with placing an explosive near a vulnerable target and other crimes.
