NORTHEAST OHIO -- Workers for Republic Services in Cleveland and Elyria remain on sympathy strike and that means trash pickup is behind schedule in several Northeast Ohio cities.
Alan Marino, general manager, Republic Services Cleveland; and Eric VanHouten, general manager, Republic Services Elyria released a joint statement this morning saying Republic is making every effort to collect trash despite the workers' strike.
The company has temporary workers servicing customers in the meantime.
Republic says customers in Eastlake, Willoughby Hills, Wickliffe, Macedonia, Sagamore Hills and Mentor-on-the-Lake have had their trash picked up. Crews are expected to pick up recyclables soon according to the company statement.
Trash collection for people in Parma, North Ridgeville, Bay Village, Strongsville, Berea, Fairview Park, Parma Height, Vermilion, Avon Lake, Lorain and Brunswick is two to three days behind schedule. Pick up will continue into the weekend. Customers are asked to leave their trash on the curb.
Teamsters went on strike Monday to support fellow members who have been on the picket lines in Youngstown since late March.
