NOVELTY -- The Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village confirmed that six counts of animal cruelty have been filed against the owners of five emaciated horses that were rescued by Rescue Village in early March.
Jessica and Kelly Barclay, of Montville, are scheduled to be arraigned May 20 in Geauga Municipal Court. The horses were being boarded in Montville.
All five horses are now safe, under veterinary care, and being supervised by the Rescue Village Humane Law Department.
Geauga Humane Society's humane agent received an anonymous call the last week of February about a group of horses that appeared to be underweight.
Christian Courtwright followed up on the call and his investigation found that the claims were true.
Veterinary examinations concluded that all five horses suffered from starvation. The horses were seized immediately and placed in protective custody.
