The winter storm of the Upper Great Lakes strengthened as it lifted northeastward into southeastern Canada on Tuesday.

As the system progressed, a swath of wintry precipitation continued across the Great Lakes and parts of the Ohio Valley. Strong winds wrapping around this system allowed areas downwind of the Great Lakes to experience some of the heavier snow totals from this storm as accumulations ranged between 3 to 6 inches.

Michigan's Upper Peninsula experienced the highest snow totals of the region with snow accumulations as totals neared a foot through Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, the system's associated cold front pushed eastward through the eastern third of the nation with ample moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.

This will allow for rain to spread across the Central and Eastern Gulf Coast States, the Tennessee Valley and the Mid-Atlantic, while wintry precipitation formed across the Northeast.

Out West, an upper trough of low pressure in the northeastern Pacific slid southeastward across the Northwest Coast on Tuesday and brought a mix of precipitation to the the Northwest and northern California. Rain and fairly light to moderate high elevation snow accumulations developed in the Pacific Northwest and Northern Intermountain West, while more robust rain and snow spread southward across California, ahead of an associated frontal system..
