I like to think of myself as well-informed about current events but this one has me wondering what captures the interest of the average American.

I'm referring to the Black Keys' Patrick Carney/Justin Bieber battle that began after the Grammys last Sunday and shows no sign of abating.

It's all starting to feel a bit like a bad episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

Here's the 411.

TMZ broke the story last week when Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney -- an Akron Firestone High School graduate -- mocked Bieber's Grammy snub after the awards, saying "He's rich, right? ... Grammys are for music, not for money ... and he's making a lot of money."

When TMZ asked Carney what he thought about the fact Justin Bieber didn't win any Grammys, he just said "Well, he's rich, so he should get over it."

That's when Bieber tweeted "somebody should slap the Black Keys drummer around," and  his followers -- known as Belibers -- all attacked Carney on Twitter.

For the record (pun intended), Carney is more amused about the exchange than anything and let the Grammy record show that the Black Keys have seven Grammys while Bieber has none.

After a week of back and forth, this Sunday Carney found another way to annoy Bieber fans -- by changing his own Twitter profile picture to Justin Bieber's picture.

Carney also changed his Twitter biography to read: "Official Twitter for the actual verified Justin Bieber DOS virtual buddy."

Since then, Carney, who has 121,000 followers on Twitter, has been retweeting many of the negative tweets he has gotten. Bieber has 35.5 million Twitter followers. It may sound like an unfair battle but I think it is more cerebral than anything.

I mean, there are so many other pressing issues that need attention.

This Twitter battle is an interesting distraction but what about Alec Baldwin's wife being sued over a yoga class? Kim Kardashian selling her $5 million mansion? Jennifer Lopez not in talks for Jenni Rivera biopic? Yes, the Twitter battle and all those other topics I just mentioned are in the Top 10 topics trending late Sunday on the Internet.

For full disclosure, I am on both Facebook and Twitter (@KimWendel) and I have my own picture on my Twitter account. Of course, with my sense of humor, the picture has a stuffed bunny rabbit toy perched on my shoulder.

One friend will likely never see either as he doesn't tweet and doesn't have a Facebook page. He calls it "Facepage" but in researching this blog, I came across two other names I think he will enjoy -- "Faceyspace" and "Tweetypage."

Have a good week and keep smiling.
