NORTH CANTON -- The North Canton Police Department say a Columbus couple is charged with stealing mail from residential mailboxes in southwest section of the city.
Police have warrants for Edward L. Dugan, 59, of Columbus, and Tonya S. Carpenter, 39, of Columbus.
Both are each charged with 2 counts of felony identity fraud and four counts of theft.
The charges stem from four separate incidents of mail theft from residential mailboxes in the southwest section of the City on October 22.
Two victims live in the 500 block of Morello Street S. W., one victim lives in the 600 block of Furbee Ave. S. W., and the fourth victim lives in the 1600 block of Westfield Ave. S. W.
All four victims had placed outgoing mail in their mailboxes to be picked up by the U. S. Postal Service. The duo was charged for stealing this mail. Checks were stolen from the mail in two of these cases, and the suspects used information from these checks to access the victim's accounts.
The suspects were charged with "identity fraud" for accessing these accounts.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Cincinnati was instrumental in helping to solve the cases.
It is believed the suspects are involved in similar incidents in other areas of Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are also involved with this investigation.
