PARMA -- Investigators have ruled a fire at the Parma Theater as arson.

The historic theater on Ridge Road caught fire late in the afternoon on November 16 and caused an estimated $750,000 in damages.
Nearly three dozen firefighters were called in to battle the fire. No one was hurt.

The fire caused heavy smoke damage on each side of the theater and to the lobby. The theater has been closed since September 9 and the building put up for sale.

The theater was built in 1936.

Community leaders had been talking about possibly saving the historic site.

Parma City Council members who were on scene as fire crews cleaned up on Friday, told  Channel 3, they still plan to move forward with their original plan to acquire the theatre and turn it into a multi-purpose arts center for the community.
