MASSILLON -- Police have arrested and charged a Jackson High School coach for bringing video recording devices into the boy's locker room, focusing on the shower area of the locker room.
Police charged Scott D. Studer, 46, of Massillon, with eight counts of the illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and took him to the Stark County Jail.
A news conference was held at 5 p.m. where Police Chief David Zink and School District Superintendent Chris DiLoreto spoke.
Several angry parents were there and asked why their children had to tell them about this and that the school district had not notified the parents.
After 22 minutes, Zink and DiLoreto abruptly ended the press conference as parents kept asking more and more questions.
The investigation was one being done by the U.S. Postal Service in a larger child pornography case, Zink said. Local police were just brought into the investigation Wednesday morning.
Studer has worked for the school district for about 25 years.
Zink said there "is nothing to suggest that he shared or traded any of the images." He said the activity of videotaping the boys began back in 2005.
Zink added that they are at the beginning of the investigation and they are just starting to try and identify the boys involved.
Zink said the cameras were never left in the locker room.
Police say that at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jackson Township detectives assisted United States Postal Inspectors in the execution of a search warrant at 5141 Pin Oak Drive NW in Massillon.
Police said there was evidence recovered implicating Studer in the production of the illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, a second-degree felony.
Studer brought video recording devices into the boy's locker room at Jackson High School, focusing the cameras on the shower area of the locker room.
Studer was employed by the Jackson Local School District in the capacity of Building Aide and Head Freshman Basketball Coach.
He tendered his resignations from both positions effective Wednesday.
