CHAGRIN FALLS -- A local Marine is getting stronger, thanks to therapy horses.

Marine Sergeant Shurvon Phillip, of Richmond Heights, was injured by an IED while serving in Iraq in 2005.

Since his injury, Phillip has been unable to communicate.

"Close your eyes for no and raise your eyebrows for yes and when he wants, he can nod his head yes and no," said Gail Ulerie, Shurvon's mother.

Shurvon is now working on getting stronger through disability carriage driving with therapy horses at Fieldstone Farm.

Every week he gets stronger behind the reins.

When he started in September, he had to use a headrest, but has now gained enough strength in his neck and upper back  to ride without one.
