COVENTRY TOWNSHIP -- Police caught a Green man, 26, after a bank robbery at the First Merit Bank on South Arlington Street.
Just after 9 a.m. Tuesday, the bank was robbed by a suspect described as white, approximately 5'2," weighing 140 pounds, wearing a Cleveland Brown's jacket, a hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap, and sunglasses.
The man leaned over the counter, stated he had a gun, and demanded money. He ran out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Witnesses say he entered a mid-1990's, gold-colored Dodge Intrepid. While entering the vehicle, a dye-pack exploded on the suspect.
He then drove northbound on South Arlington Street. Approximately 30 minutes later, Summit County Deputies Tim Eckberg and Michael Beers located a vehicle matching the description of the robber's vehicle at the corner of Arlington Street and Archwood Avenue in Akron.
The deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle drove off but crashed a short distance away.
The driver then ran off and attempted to carjack another vehicle. He was unsuccessful and a foot pursuit began between the suspect and the deputies.
He was caught a short distance away and identified as Darrell Connell, 26, of Green.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault for his encounter with the deputies.
