MIAMI - Forecasters say a new tropical depression has formed in the eastern Pacific but poses no threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Saturday that the depression was about 845 miles (1,360 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.

Maximum sustained winds were at 35 mph (56 kph), and it was moving west at 10 mph (16 kph).

Officials say it could become a tropical storm sometime Sunday.

The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
