Consumer Minute: Peanut butter recall update

The Food and Drug Administration says it found salmonella in a New Mexico plant that produces nut butters for Trader Joe's and other grocery chains. Peanut butter sold at Trader Joes is now linked to 35 salmonella cases in 19 states. Sunland Inc. expanded its recall to include all products manufactured in the plant in the last two and a half years, since March 2010. Whole Foods, Target, Safeway and other national chains also use Sunland products in their own brands.

Mortgage rates fell to a new record low today. This comes after the Federal Reserve's decision to buy billions in home loans to ease costs for home owners and buyers. The average 30 year fixed-rate mortgage fell to 3.36 percent, down from 3.4 percent percent last week.

It's only been a few days, but Amazon has sold out of its new Kindle Paperwhite. The newest gadget went on sale Monday. The device is thinner and gets more battery life than previous Kindle E-readers. If you've been dying to get your hands on one, you'll have to wait another 4 to 6 weeks.
