OAKWOOD VILLAGE -- Police have reopened the highway after a tow truck driver was hit by a semi truck.
Police say the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. on I-271 North near mile marker 22.
The tow truck driver was changing a tire on the side of the highway in the northbound lanes. He was standing between his tow truck and the car he was working on.
A semi truck, also headed north, swerved and crashed into the tow truck, striking the tow driver. After the crash, the driver ended up in the middle lane of the highway.
Both directions of I-271 were closed to allow LifeFlight to land. The victim was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. His condition is not known at this time.
The highway was closed for about an hour and a half, reopening around 3 p.m.
Officers are investigating the cause of the accident.
