AKRON -- A jury has found James G. Maffei, 52, of Akron, guilty of felonious assault on a police officer, felonious assault, illegal assembly, having weapons under a disability, tampering with evidence and possession of criminal tools.

On December 10, Maffei got into an argument with and threatened a visitor in his home. Maffei then shot at the man's feet.

When the man ran out of the front door, Maffei shot at him again. A woman who was at Maffei's home at the time of the shooting reported the incident to the Summit County Sheriff's Office a few days later.

The Sheriff's SWAT team entered Maffei's house on Dec. 13 to arrest him. As the officers went up the stairs to Maffei's bedroom, Maffei fired a gun at them.

A girl hiding under Maffei's bed confirmed the details of the original shooting and gave the officers information tying Maffei to numerous meth labs.

Judge Tom Parker will sentence Maffei at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 26 and Maffei faces 10 to 38 years in prison.
