CLEVELAND -- The son of former Cleveland City Councilwoman Sabra Pierce Scott was shot on Cleveland's east side.
Police say they were involved in a shooting that happened just after midnight.
A man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The shooting happened on E. 93rd Street and Parmelee Avenue.
WKYC has learned the victim is Randell Scott, Jr. who is in critical condition.
The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Patrol Officer Mark Worsencroft and Patrol Officer Alfred Johnson. Both have been with the department for nearly 5 years. They have since been placed on administrative leave.
Sergeant Sammy Morris tells us the suspect had an open container of alcohol. When officers tried to talk to him, they saw a handgun in his waistband.
The suspect was ordered to raise his hands and complied. The officers started to interrogate him.
Sgt. Morris says that's when he lowered his hand towards his waist and an officer shot him in the stomach.
Scott is the son of ex-councilwoman Sabra Pierce Scott and current City Street Commissioner Randell Scott.
Sabra Pierce Scott pleaded guilty to taking a $2,000 bribe and soliciting a job for her son, Randell, in the Cuyahoga County corruption probe.
Scott served on Cleveland City Council from 2001 until she resigned in 2009.
Cleveland Police have named him a suspect of having weapons while intoxicated.
Scott does have a valid Ohio Concealed Carry Permit.
