HIRAM -- Hiram College has been told it is safe to return to campus after being evacuated for over 4 hours due to a bomb threat.

Safety officials gave the all clear after completing their sweep of campus shortly after 9:30 p.m.

The investigation into identifying the responsible person or persons continues.

Late Friday the college asked that everyone remain patient as safety officials continue checking all campus buildings. F.B.I. agents have also been called to the scene assisting on this investigation.

The college posted a statement on its web site saying it received a threat and that it was taking it seriously.

The school says safety teams with bomb-sniffing dogs are checking all campus buildings. Students with no other place to go are being directed to the local fire department.

Earlier Friday, bomb threats caused evacuations at campuses in Texas and North Dakota.

Hiram College has about 1,300 students.
