NORTH CANTON -- Police say that a Salvation Army bell ringer was robbed at knifepoint outside the North Canton K-Mart on North Main Street shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday.
They say that four young men wearing dark clothing and hoodies took money intended for those the Salvation Army serves.
Sgt. Frank Kemp said the robbers didn't just take the money, they took the whole kettle. The bell ringer had been outside the K-Mart since 11 a.m.
"He wasn't able to give us a very good description. They threatened to use a knife. He did see a knife clip," Sgt. Kemp said.
The thieves took off on foot towards North Main Street. The bell ringer didn't know if they had a vehicle.
The Salvation Army has instructed their bellringers not to put up a fight or struggle with anyone who tries to steal from them.
Anyone who witnessed or knows anything about the robbery is asked to call the North Canton Police Department at (330) 499-5911.
