Jason Aldean's marriage is back in the headlines.
The country singer and his wife of 12 years, Jessica, have decided to part ways, citing irreconcilable differences. They have two daughters, Keeley, 10, and Kendyl, 5.
"This is a really tough time for my entire family," Aldean said in a statement Monday. "Jessica and I have been together since we were teenagers. We've been through a lot of ups and downs over the years as we grew up together as a couple. She will always be important to me because she is the mother of my children, and I know that we will both always make our daughters our number-one priority. I've learned that everyone always rushes to judgement when they hear news like this. That's really hard because no one knows anything about our relationship but us. I understand that because of my job, I have to go through a lot of this in the public eye, but for my girls' sake I really wish people would give us some level of privacy and at the very least be respectful of them."
A sign that trouble was brewing emerged last fall, when Aldean was caught fawning over a Season 11 American Idol contestant, Brittany Kerr. He quickly issued a public apology, and, a few days after that incident, told USA TODAY's Brian Mansfield: "I think it's a private thing. Unfortunately, it hasn't stayed private. My main concern is, I've got two little girls at home that I'm trying to protect from all this stuff. ... My main focus right now is piecing my family back together and doing that as privately as possible."
