A construction worker in Thailand's northern Chiang Mai province spends his free time as a traffic volunteer directing the traffic in Michael Jackson's signature moves.

A busy intersection of a highway and local road in Chiang Mai's Saraphi district has become the 48-year-old Prapan Chaiyawong's post during rush hours.

Motorists and children alike are amused by the volunteer's brisk dances incorporated in controlling the traffic.

Every morning for the past three years, Prapan is ready to perform his much-loved duty for about one hour and 15 minutes before going to work. He returns to his spot after work from 5-6 pm.

Hassles and hot weather at the intersection uncontrolled by traffic lights are eased away by smiles and chuckles on people's faces.

Prapan told reporters that he was pleased to help people in those communities and volunteered to this job because insufficient traffic police had led to a number of accidents in the past.

His dance moves needs no choreographer, it is the way he wants to put smiles on people's face. "The kids see me in the morning, they can throw away sleepiness," Prapan said.

The only downsize of his work is that he has have to change many pairs of shoes.
