Suddenly, first lady Michelle Obama is sporting bangs. On her birthday. Just a few days before her husband's second inauguration.
No big announcement from the White House, just a picture her office tweeted today - only her second tweet with her new handle, FLOTUS - of her meeting in the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House with David Hall, a citizen co-chair of Monday's inauguration ceremonies.
Instant buzz resulted. "A youthful new hairstyle: a straight, shoulder-skimming cut with bangs," People enthused.
On Twitter, Devin Daniel was a fan: "Happy Birthday to our fab @F lotus! The bar you set for American women is high and I'm loving it!," she tweeted.
Mrs. O, who turns 49 today, is getting closer to matching former FLOTUS Hillary Clinton's record for attention paid to her changing hairstyles. In fact, people are still commenting on Mrs. C's hair, even though she's moved on to secretary of State.
Obama usually styles her hair parted on the side in a loose semi-bob, or pulled back tightly. In the new cut, she looks years younger, and she didn't look very old to begin with. The picture shows her wearing what appears to be a rose-colored intarsia knit dress with a scoop neck.
Bangs seem to be making a comeback: Both Duchess Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian have recently acquired new cuts with long bangs.
Meanwhile, that's one reveal about Obama's 2013 inaugural fashion and style. Will she keep it for the ceremonies and the balls? Stay tuned.
