CLEVELAND -- The streets of Ohio City were jam-packed Sunday with people helping the West Side Market celebrate its 100th year anniversary.

It may have rained on the parade, but thousands still turned out for this once-in-a-century event.

People lined the sides of West 25th Street, braving the rain and seasonally chilly temperatures just to take part in the festivities.

"It's the cultural heritage we've had for 100 years now so it's important to support it," said Anna Tabor.

The full-on parade was something to see for those who grew up with the market and those who's earliest memories were there in that moment.

"It's an amazing market. I've been to other cities in the country they don't have something like this. We're really lucky," said shopper Shelly Witherspoon.

For Witherspoon, the West Side Market also has sentimental value. It's where she went into labor with her son.

She brought him along to see the once in a lifetime celebration.

If you thought the market was crowded on a Saturday, then you probably didn't see it Sunday. There was hardly room to walk, but market supporters say that's all a part of the experience.

"Getting food and getting friendship as well. It's a package deal," said Witherspoon.
