NEWARK, N.J. -- An illegal immigrant has gone two decades undetected working as a security employee at the busy Newark, N.J., airport, which has been cited for mishandling security breaches.
Authorities say Bimbo Olumuyiwa Oyewole used the identity of murder victim Jerry Thomas to hide his status as an illegal immigrant from Nigeria.
They say they have no evidence that he concealed his real identity for any other reason.
He was arrested Monday at his home in Elizabeth and faces charges including identity theft.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says he had passed background checks. It says he used the name Jerry Thomas since 1992, the year Thomas was killed in New York City.
New York police aren't saying whether he's a suspect in the unsolved murder case.
