Police say just before 1:30 a.m. a crowd of people flagged down a zone car in front of Skeet's VSP Lounge on E.93rd street saying a man had fired a gun inside the bar. Responding officers tried to stop the male who then took off on foot. According to police the suspect ran down Beacon Avenue and barricaded himself behind a fence in a vacant field. Police say he then pointed a loaded semi-automatic handgun at one of the officers. The officer then fired nine rounds at the suspect hitting the suspect, 41 year old Raymond Herring, hitting him once, possible twice. The officer who fired the shots was not hurt, but his partner suffered a leg injury during the foot chase. Police say Herring is a convicted felon who is wanted on numerous outstanding warrants. The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on a minimum of three days of paid administrative leave, which is standard in all Cleveland Police shootings.
