The new space – which increased from 55,000 to 93,000 square feet – features a grand reading room and auditorium, added technological services and more room for children’s activities, including a Children's Computer Connections room.
The number of parking spaces nearly doubled as well.
But they’re still not done. Phase Two of renovations began in June. This includes the renovation of the existing library, and will last eight months. The completed project is expected to open in January of 2008.
The project has been in the works since 2004, when Administration officials and the Lakewood Board of Trustees began working with Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
