The Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) awarded the city a $400,000 grant Thursday afternoon. The money will be used for weatherization and emergency assistance to residents, who can't afford to pay their heating bills. A big chunk of the money will also be used to help residents, facing shut-off of their natural gas. This money comes as the U.S. Senate voted not to allocate additional funds to help low income residents through the federal home heating program.
