AKRON -- Ohio's legislature changed the residency requirements, allowing safety forces to live outside the cities they served.
One Akron firefighter chose to move out of Akron and was subsequently fired for his actions.
Akron Firefighter Tim Semelsberger and his union -- IAFF Local 330 -- chose arbitration to address his firing.
Five years later, the arbitrator ruled for IAFF Local 330 and Semelsberger was ordered reinstated with seniority and pay.
The City of Akron reinstated Semelsberger but did not pay back wages of $251,421.91 and then the city appealed the arbitration order to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.
On Monday, a judge upheld the arbitrator's ruling and confirmed the award of back pay and reinstatement.
