CLEVELAND -- The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's spokesman says former Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo was brought to the Cuyahoga County Jail Tuesday.

Spokesman John O'Brien said Russo, sentenced to 22 years in federal prison, is in the custody of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff.

The picture shown was taken when he was processed into the Cuyahoga County Jail on Tuesday.

Russo, 63, has been in prison in Loretto, Pennsylvania since Nov. 16, 2012. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison after making a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

WKYC contacted the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office and spokesman Joe Frolik with the prosecutor's office cannot confirm or say why Russo is in town.

Former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora was also in the Cuyahoga County Jaill the past three weeks but O'Brien did not confirm that he was still in the sheriff's custody Tuesday.

Speculation that Dimora and now Russo are here to testify before a grand jury for possible state charges in the Cuyahoga County corruption probe has been rampant but Prosecutor Tim McGinty has declined to comment.

Russo and Dimora were the top targhets of the FBI/IRS Cuyahoga County corruption probe that began a year before the very public July 28, 2008, raids by more than 200 agents of county offices and some Northeast Ohio businesses.
