SOLON -- Just after 8 p.m. Sunday, police were called to Banbury Circle on a report of a suspicious object.
Upon arrival, the resident, 46, showed officers a gallon size plastic "Deer Park" water bottle and a white "Drano" bottle lying next to his mailbox.
The bottle was swollen past its original size and contained a green liquid.
Police recognized the object as being a homemade bomb -- made with common household chemicals containing hydrogen chloride or sodium hydroxide -- that failed to detonate.
Officers were able to puncture the bottle to relieve the pressure and safely dispose of the material.
The case is being investigated.
