FAIRVIEW PARK -- Derek Dorsey has been preparing for the "Tough Mudder" in Mansfield for weeks. Now his excitement has turned to nervousness after hearing about the tragedy in West Virginia.
Police say a 28-year-old man drowned attempting the walk-the-plank obstacle last weekend near Glengary.
Authorities have investigated the event and deemed it safe, and now Tough Mudder is doing its own internal look into each obstacle.
Dorsey says he has to sign a death waiver prior to participation and, although he's up to the challenge, nerves do kick in.
"Being a father, it scares me because there's the possibility that things could happen...but when you have a Tough Mudder, it's what you sign up for, it's what you enjoy, and it's the thrill," he said.
