CLEVELAND -- Services will be held Thursday for the Beachwood woman murdered downtown, as police continue to investigate her death.

A funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel on Taylor Road in Cleveland Heights.

An obituary for Aliza Sherman listed her as the loving mother of three sons and daughter, a cherished daughter, a dear sister and companion to her pets.

It makes no mention of her estranged husband Sanford Sherman.

The couple had been due in court this week for a contested divorce trial.

Police found Sherman outside Erieview Plaza Sunday, just steps from Stafford & Stafford, LPA, her divorce attorney's office.

When they arrived, police found Sherman covered in blood. EMS took her to MetroHealth Medical Center where she later died. Police say she still had her purse and it was unclear if anything was taken.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner said Sherman died from 11 stab wounds.

Cleveland police are reviewing surveillance video of the incident. There have been no arrests made or suspects named.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.

An infertility nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, Sherman was beloved by her co-workers.

The Sherman family was part of the congregation at Green Road Synagogue. Rabbi Binyamin Blau told Channel 3 News he discussed the tragedy from the pulpit as Passover began. Blau said the holiday had delayed Sherman's funeral.

Friends who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to direct funds to Rescue Village, Geauga County Humane Society's shelter, at 15463 Chillicothe Rd. Novelty, OH 44072 or The AIF Department c/o The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
