Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Nathan Healy and Jay Canty scored 13 points
each as the fourth-seeded Appalachian State Mountaineers defeated the 12th-
seeded Furman Paladins in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference
Jamaal Trice added 12 points for Appalachian State (15-15), which will take on
the No. 1 seeded Davidson Wildcats in the semifinal round on Sunday.
Colin Reddick faced Furman (7-24) with 15 points. Kendrec Ferrara chipped in
12 points and eight rebounds while Charlie Reddick and Bobby Austin netted 11
points each for the Paladins.
The Mountaineers connected on 5-of-12 attempts from 3-point range in the
opening stanza while Furman went 1-of-5 from beyond the arc. ASU took a 38-24
lead into halftime after it shot 53.6 percent from the floor.
The Paladins did their best to rally back by converting 14-of-16 at the free-
throw line in the second half, but the Mountaineers stayed in front by netting
55.2 percent of their field goal tries in the period.
Furman was unable to overcome its 18 turnovers or ASU's eight makes from
behind the 3-point line.
