Lakewood -- Nearly 30 teens are sleeping outside tonight to raise awareness and money for the homeless.
It's the 9th year for the annual Homeless Awareness Sleep Out, sponsored by the Lakewood Congregational Church Youth Fellowship.
The teens, along with a few parents, will spend the night in cardboard boxes in front of the church, while they "panhandle" to raise money.
"For our kids it really makes a big impression to come out here and see what it is like --even one night...It's very tough," explained church member Scott Suttell. "Even last year was colder than this year..but it's still spending a night in a box and it's not pleasant."
Last year, the group raised nearly $3,000 for various homless support agencies.
