ELYRIA -- Late Friday night, a fire broke out at the Elyria Foundry Company.

Fire crews started to arrive shortly after reports of explosions came in at 9:45 p.m.

Fire Departments from Elyria, Elyria Township, Sheffield, Avon and Lorain battled the blaze at 120 Filbert Street until the early hours in the morning.

Assistant Chief Ron Brlas with the Elyria Fire Department tells Channel 3 no one was injured in the fire.

The fire is now under investigation.

In a statement was released by Elyria Foundry, the President and CEO Bruce Smith said:

"The safety of our people is and always will be our primary concern, and we are incredibly thankful that no one was injured during this incident. We are in the process of conducting a thorough investigation as to the cause of the fire and will not resume operations in the affected areas of the facility until we are certain that we can do so safely."

Asst. Chief Brlas added that the fire was contained and that the fire department will stay on the scene to watch for hot spots.

Officials have not determined what caused the fire and have not released a damage estimate. A recording at the company Saturday said its offices were closed.

The company's website says the foundry's products include castings used for plastic and rubber processing machinery, food processing equipment, printing and paper making machinery and oil and gas field equipment.
