VERMILION TOWNSHIP -- 18-month-old Isaac Brothers-Bartholomew was buried Monday morning. The infant died of malnutrition.

Isaac was found dead in his crib by his parents James Brothers, 33, and Adrienne Bartholomew, 34, Tuesday around 7 p.m.

The parents told Erie County Sheriff's investigators the child had to be fed through a tube because of gastrointestinal disorders.

Investigators say the child hasn't visited a doctor in eight months and medical records don't support the parents' story.

Four of the six other children in the home are said to have severe mental and physical handicaps and are being treated for malnutrition at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.

The other two, an 11-year-old and a four-year-old, are in protective custody.

The parents have not been charged with any crimes. The Erie County Sheriff's department says they intend to take the case to the Erie County Prosecutor.

The family's attorney, Denise Demmitt, issued a statement to Channel 3 News:

"My clients buried their son today. They ask that they be given privacy to mourn the loss of their son. There are no criminal charges pending against my clients. It is early in the investigation, but my clients remain confident that their family will be restored. These are matters for courts of law and not a court of public opinion. I am confident that facts in this case exist, which will exonerate my clients of any wrongdoing."
