CLEVELAND -- October 2012 will go down in the history books as the wettest October ever in Cleveland.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Cleveland says that through 5 p.m. Wednesday, rainfall at Cleveland Hopkins Airport was 10.24 inches and beat the old record of 9.50 inches in 1954.

The effects of Hurricane Sandy propelled October rainfall amounts into record territory in a short period of time. Since Friday, Cleveland has received 6.29 inches of rain as Sandy moved through the area.

Elsewhere, a new record was also set in Mansfield with 7.26 inches of rain through 5 p.m. Mansfield's previous record was 7.02 inches in 1919.

In Youngstown, a total of 5.80 inches of rain fell in October, making it the 4th wettest on record for the Mahoning Valley. The previous record was 5.43 inches set in 1946.

And, at the Akron Canton Regional Airport, October now stands as the 3rd wettest on record at 5.22 inches.
