CLEVELAND -- Police say a clerk at the Mini Mart at 17801 Euclid Avenue shot an unarmed customer when he broke into the secured area of the store just before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Police arrived to find a man with gunshot wounds to the abdomen, arm and leg. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Police say the preliminary investigation reveals that the man with the gunshot wounds and the store clerk were involved in an argument inside the store.

The clerk was behind the bulletproof glass during the argument. As the argument escalated, the customer kicked in the door to the secured area and entered the area.

At that  time, the clerk grabbed a handgun and shot the customer multiple times. The customer did not have a weapon at the time of the shooting.

The store clerk was arrested for felonious assault and weapons under disability.

The customer with the gunshot wounds is being named a suspect in a burglary/ robbery report but no charges have been filed.

Upon completion, the facts of this investigation are to be presented to the Prosecutor's Office for review.
