Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners selected the
contract of first baseman Luis Jimenez on Tuesday and recalled six others from
The 30-year-old Jimenez was named the Rainiers offensive player of the year
and will make his Major League debut with his first appearance. At Tacoma,
Jimenez hit .310 with 32 doubles and 20 home runs, while also driving in 81
over 125 games.
Carlos Triunfel, who was also called up, will make his Major League debut with
his first appearance as well. The infielder stroked 31 doubles and 62 runs
batted in and finished second on the Rainiers with 129 hits for the season.
First baseman Mike Carp was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday. He
who was placed on the DL on August 14 with a groin injury. In 49 games with
the M's this season prior to the DL stint, he was hitting .206 with five home
runs and 20 RBI.
Also, the Mariners recalled pitcher Shawn Kelley, infielder Alex Liddi,
pitcher Hector Noesi and outfielder Casper Wells from Tacoma.
